My friends,
Living here in Southern California, all of us have experienced earthquakes, large and small. We know from our own experiences how very scary on a visceral level it is to have the very earth itself moving. We’ve seen the damage and devastation up close and would never want to see anyone suffer from such an event.
It is horrible seeing the destruction and loss in Venezuela this morning and to be moved by it. The American people and especially the Jewish community are known for our generous nature and giving hearts. At this time, it is a good thing to want to contribute to assisting the people of Venezuela in their time of need.
My only admonition is be very aware of scams and criminals. We know in times of need and disaster, both the “better angels” and the “worst nature” of humanity come out. When making a contribution, take care to find legitimate organizations. A simple GOOGLE search will direct you to both legitimate International Aid groups and Aid groups within the Jewish community.
We pray for the recovery and safety of those in peril and I encourage making real contributions to reconstruction and recovery in Venezuela at this time.
Rabbi Ron
