Yom HaShoah community event – The music of Paul Schoenfield

Event details

  • Sunday | April 27, 2025
  • 3:00 pm
  • Temple Beth Torah 7620 Foothill Road Ventura, CA 93004

Our April concert, two days after Yom HaShoah, features the work of Paul Schoenfield, a devout religious Jew who had a way of weaving secular, religious, foreign, folk and popular styles into his compositions.

The second portion of the April 27 program is Camp Songs for mezzo-soprano, baritone, violin, cello, double bass, clarinet, piano. Schoenfield once said:  “When I saw the movie The Producers, I decided that if I were ever going to express my anger to God about the Holocaust, it would be like that.”  Camp Songs was a finalist for the 2003 Pulitzer Prize in Music. This production also includes Tales from Chelm for string quartet and will be sponsored in part by the Jewish Federation of Ventura County, as our community Yom HaShoah gathering.

We are delighted to build on last year’s success with more unique classical music that speaks to Jewish culture but is also universally appealing for those who enjoy fine music. Our goal is for this music to be affordable and available to our community.

We invite you to be a sponsor of this concert in one of the following ways:

Underwriter: a substantial contribution allows us to publicize you as a Program Underwriter. You will receive complimentary tickets, program listing, and access for you and guests to the reception following the concert.

Major Key Sponsor: for $250, you will receive 4 tickets, your name in our program, the reception after the concert and sponsorship of 10 free student tickets.

Minor Key Sponsor: for $125, you will receive 2 tickets, your name in the program booklet, and sponsorship of 6 free student tickets.
