We have a new set of programs called Limnot Yameinu Kein Hoda: Graceful Aging. This program takes into account specific mental health issues and concerns related to today’s seniors (and those who love them!) and gives a variety of helpful ways for us to frame our our situation at this life juncture.
We will have five separate programs that will offer useful coping mechanisms, provide best ways for managing one’s mental wellness and thriving under today’s conditions
will bring to bear wisdom and best practices from the worlds of mental health and Jewish tradition. The programs will frame important concepts about aging to Jewish texts, values and rituals, reminding us that Judaism and Jewish learning can have a significant place in our mental wellness plan.
This series of programs was made possible by a grant from the Pacific Southwest Region of the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism.
The eminent Rabbi Laura Geller, rabbi emerita of Temple Emanuel in Beverly Hills, will inaugurate this special series on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at 4p via Zoom. In an interactive session, participants will explore and be encouraged to manage life changes with D-I-Y (do-it-yourself) modalities such as music, movement, mindfulness and more.
The second session will be held on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at 4p on Zoom with Rabbi Richard Address, founder and director of Jewish Sacred Aging. He will explore social aspects of aging. This will include creating new relationships and strengthening current ones in families and communities.
A third session will cover spiritual and cultural aspects of aging on Saturday, March 2, live in our sanctuary with Rabbi Jennifer Flam. A special kiddush will follow. RSVP to fblande@gmail.com
Our fourth session, on Wednesday, March 13 at 4p via Zoom, Rabbi Dayle Friedman will help us to think about the legacy we wish to leave and how to do so.
Our fifth session will take place on Wednesday, March 20 at 7pvia Zoom, and will be a special convening of our Significant Jewish Book Club. Fran Lande will lead a discussion of the book Getting Good at Getting Older, co-authored by Rabbi Laura Geller–this series’ inaugural speaker–and Rabbi Richard Siegel, z”l, Rabbi Geller’s late husband.
Please RSVP to Fran Lande at fblande@gmail.com to make sure you get links to all the Zoom content, and to give us a count for the Kiddush on March 2nd.
We all look forward to this exciting program series. More information will follow.
